I am an animator by profession, I have practiced animation for 9 years including when I was studying at the university. After graduating I dabbled in storyboarding, 2D animation, 3D animation, portrait drawing, using Unity for gaming and animation. In 2022 I ventured into tutoring, my first job was in Multimedia University where I was tasked with teaching Character rigging, Special effects in Film and Special effects in animation. Later on, that year I got called for an interview at Edulink College where I currently teach, Blender, Substance Painter, Unity and Autodesk Maya. Having been brought up with parents who teach, I have got a natural inclination into teaching what I've learnt. For me teaching, is getting to revise over and over the concepts learnt in class, becoming a master in my field. Through teaching I also get to encounter different personalities of students and getting them to collaborate on a project under my mentorship is a challenge worth undertaking. We managed to get acknowledgement in a creative marathon contest, the emerging star award, which really encouraged my students that through teamwork, understanding and empathy just but to mention the few qualities that govern good teamwork, anything creative can be achieved. When I heard about Soma Smart, I was so intrigued by the idea of getting to dispense knowledge and skills to many individuals at remote locations. I look forward to the day when Kenya will produce a full-length animation film, and this can be achieved if a lot of curious animators are taught the right tools to achieve this goal and also get to nurture teamwork while yet being in different locations. Do you wonder what age one should start learning animation, I dare say the sooner the better!
